This pad was ill! The Kumamoto Castle was built in 1607 by Kato Kiyomasa (see picture of statue). While just the sheer size and architecture is amazing, its defensive capabilities proved almost impenetrable. The castle along with the other structures on the property have undergone reconstruction since the 1600s but, you can still get a sense of historic Japan. It was truly amazing to hike to the top of the castle and look down upon the city.
